Prayer and Worship

E-mail Print PDF
There once lived a man who looked downward when praising God.
And all others, who looked upward when in praise, put him to death.
For they thought that he worshiped the devil.
And when they crucified him, he cried out:
God abides above and below.

But the people did not understand.

Some time after, a woman appeared among these people.
And she looked upward when in prayer.
And all others, who bowed their heads when in prayer, put her to death.
For they deemed her an immodest woman, a blasphemer who lacked humility.
And when they crucified her, she cried out:
Prayer rises and does not descend.
And I would rise with my prayer upon her wings.

But the people did not understand.

Meditation

There are those who first receive worldly praise and then are sent to their crucifixions. Then there are others who are crucified first and then taken down from their crosses to receive worldly honor and worship. Either way, the world is cruel.
